How to Rent a Car at Phuket International Airport

Quick answer: Book the vehicle for your arrival date, select Phuket International Airport as the pickup point, provide your flight number and confirm the meeting point. Regular pickup hours are 08:30–19:30. Arrivals outside these hours must be arranged in advance and may incur an additional charge.

Step 1: Enter the correct arrival information

When booking, provide:

  • arrival date;

  • expected pickup time;

  • flight number;

  • domestic or international terminal;

  • working telephone or messenger contact;

  • number of passengers and amount of luggage.

The flight number helps the manager follow changes to the arrival time, but you should still report a significant delay.

Step 2: Choose a suitable vehicle

Do not choose only by daily price. Consider luggage, passenger capacity and the route after leaving the airport.

A compact car normally suits one or two travellers. Families or groups may need a crossover or seven-seat vehicle, but check luggage space when every seat is occupied.

Current options are available on the car fleet page.

Step 3: Prepare the documents

An international visitor should have:

  • a valid passport;

  • a valid national driving licence;

  • an International Driving Permit accepted in Thailand.

The main driver and every additional driver should meet the conditions for the selected vehicle.

Do not send sensitive documents through an unconfirmed contact channel. Follow the document procedure provided with the booking confirmation.

Step 4: Confirm the meeting point

Phuket Airport has domestic and international arrival areas. The confirmation should specify:

  • terminal;

  • meeting point;

  • manager’s telephone number;

  • identifying sign or instructions;

  • what to do if you cannot find the manager.

The official airport arrival information describes the international meeting point in the outer lobby on Level 1 after customs. The rental company’s confirmation should still be treated as the final instruction. Official Phuket Airport website.

Step 5: Inspect the vehicle before leaving

Before signing the handover report:

  • photograph all sides of the vehicle;

  • record existing scratches and dents;

  • check wheels, tyres and glass;

  • confirm the fuel level;

  • check supplied equipment;

  • verify the registration number;

  • make sure the agreed deposit and insurance conditions are written down.

Keep the photographs until the deposit has been returned.

Step 6: Plan the return

Confirm:

  • return time;

  • return terminal or agreed location;

  • fuel level;

  • inspection procedure;

  • contact person;

  • possible out-of-hours charge.

Allow additional time before the flight. Traffic near the airport and the vehicle inspection can take longer than expected.

Late-night pickup and flight delays

Regular service hours are currently 08:30–19:30. Pickup or return outside this period is an additional service and should be confirmed before the trip.

A delayed flight does not automatically guarantee that a manager will remain at the airport without notice. Send an update as soon as the new arrival time is known.
