Park once and explore Old Town on foot
Select a suitable parking area before entering the historic blocks and walk the final streets. Searching for a space beside one café can create repeated loops through the one-way system. Events may temporarily change access and parking arrangements.
A compact car is easier in urban turns and tighter spaces. A large SUV should be selected for the group or luggage, not because the accommodation is in town.
A central base for different coasts
Plan a western day for Patong, Karon or Kata and a separate northern day for the airport side. For eastern piers and Chalong, confirm the exact destination: the word "pier" can refer to very different departure points.
Avoid packing several coasts into a rigid schedule. Cross-island travel time changes with the hour, rain and the route out of town.
Arrange an urban handover
Ask whether the hotel has a stopping bay or car park. If the building sits on a restricted or crowded street, agree on a neighbouring road or parking area where the inspection can be completed safely.
Check fuel and allow for city traffic before return. Do not leave keys with an unrelated third party without an agreed handover instruction.
