Where a crossover earns its size
Extra clearance is useful on steep accommodation entrances, uneven parking approaches and days involving a stroller or bulky equipment. A higher view can help with traffic awareness, but it does not replace careful driving on wet paint, descents and narrow lanes.
Rental SUVs must stay within the permitted-use rules. Beaches, rough tracks and flooded roads can remain prohibited even when a model has all-wheel drive.
Cabin space versus dense neighbourhoods
A larger car takes more planning in Patong, Kata and Phuket Town. Couples travelling light may find a compact hatchback easier and more efficient. Families should check rear-seat width, child-seat access and the luggage compartment of the actual model.
The SUV badge does not always mean more usable room than a people carrier. Compare the layout rather than relying on the body style.
Checks for island and mainland routes
Inspect tyres, wipers, lights and air conditioning before departure. During heavy rain, reduce speed, avoid standing water and report dashboard warnings rather than continuing until the problem becomes serious.
Confirm the permitted travel area before driving toward Phang Nga, Krabi, Khao Sok or Cheow Lan. Unlimited mileage applies only within the region allowed by the agreement.
